What We
Do

01
Starting Point

Where does our interest originate?

Issue

Inclusion, ranks among the most salient issue to address and resolve discrimination and racism against minorities.

The inclusion gap issue is even more persistent if the information available to minorities is systemically restricted by accessibility issues like language. This in turn, creates an inferior demand of quality contents since they are harder to encounter or acquire, causing at the same time less production of quality contents for these demographics.

This is the classic example of what Swedish Sociologist and Nobel economics prize, Gunnar Myrdal, termed “circular cumulative causation”, while studying the causes of persistent poverty in communities of color. He proposed, that efforts would have to be directed at intervening the cycle to interrupt the feedback loop, and  cause an effective and lasting impact.

At the same time, in Latin America, mass media conglomerates create superficial and spectacular narratives that lack the level of detail and nuance to provide an accurate account true to the actual United States, its toils, growing pains, even its injustices. Creating false narratives about American Exceptionalism, far apart from its complexities.

Questions like, how the US’ institutional design fosters democracy, or how notable Americans impacted the world? or What can be learned from the American experiment? are questions that are seldom provoked by the programming.

Furthermore, the emerging market of National, Local public stations and University channels through out Latin-America, often struggle to acquire productions worthy of broadcasting.

Background

Spanish speaking media in the US offers low quality entertainment almost exclusively restricted to soap operas and celebrity news. To make matters worse, news and information offerings are often displaced by sports programming.

In Latin America, international cable network conglomerates flood their offering with translated contents which depth is limited to the interest they can commercially generate.

What is currently offered

The existing Spanish speaking cultural programing is often wrongly translated. Frequently, programs contain literal translations or grammatical errors which make the entire content unintelligible to any standard speaker of the language or make contents unappealing.

Solutions

Our take

Selection

Our projects are chosen according to specific content guidelines for their educational value, cultural significance, historical importance and depth of content.

Content curators and translators select materials based on knowledge about the subject matter and how they can be of interest and value to the target audience.

Translation

Translations are made by translators with background on the subject matter, to propitiate the appropriate terminology at issue in Spanish.

Special attention is taken not to incorporate literal terms or mistranslated cognate terms, among many other common mistakes.

Grammar and lexical issues are cautiously evaluated to avoid inaccurate translations apt for a grater reach for world TV audiences.

Voice-over

Artistically directed with professional voice actors from trade associations such as Asociación Colombiana de Locutores (A.C.L.).

Actor selection based on similarity with the original, casting of aesthetically appealing sounding voices and standard accent for a greater market reach.
